A short side trip to Dead Horse State Park, near the entrance to the Island in the Sky, is a must see location and well worth the trip.

Island in the Sky hikes: Mesa Arch, Grand View Point, Aztec Butte, and Upheaval Dome. Needles hikes: Roadside Ruin, Pothole Point, Cave Spring.
