It’s important to be Bear Aware when enjoying Yellowstone National Park. You may encounter both grizzly bears and black bears on the trails in Yellowstone National Park. 

Yellowstone is one of the most popular National Parks in the United States.  It was established as America's first national park on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone covers an area of 2,219 square miles.

The shoulder seasons in the spring from April through May and in fall September through October, are the best time to visit Yellowstone.  The park is crowded throughout July and August when most families are on summer vacation.

Yellowstone National Park is open to visitors 365 days a year, twenty-four hours a day if you use the North Entrance.  The Southern Loop is closed throughout November until the end of March for winter.

Yellowstone Operating Hours

Most of Yellowstone sits above 6,000 feet in elevation. Daily weather patterns can be unpredictable.  In Spring and Fall daytime temperatures may vary between 30 degrees F and 60 degrees F in a single day, and may include snow.
