When visiting Oregon in the spring, you can stroll through the tulip fields at Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, visit Willamette Valley’s vineyards, hit the trails in Silver Falls State Park, or enjoy wildlife viewing to spot whales on the coast or birds returning from their winter migration.

Bandon in April
If you’re looking to take in Oregon’s rugged beauty in the spring, the teeny town of Bandon, along its southern coastline, is an underrated gem. In April crowds are typically much lower than the busy summertime. Just be sure to pack a raincoat—springtime weather can be a mixed bag along the coastline.
April is also an awesome time to explore the coastline—you can see newborn sea lion and seal pups swimming off its rocky shores and gray whales (dozens by the day!) make their way from the warm lagoons of Baja, Mexico to their feeding grounds in the Arctic Ocean.
There’s plenty of things to do in Bandon: explore the sea stacks and sea caves at Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint, one of the most dramatic beaches in the state. Additionally, spend a morning perusing around the adorable Old Town, complete with old time-y candy stores, breweries, and coffee shops.
Bandon also has a quirky artsy side. A fun stop in Old Town is Washed Ashore, a non-profit art collective that turns trash collected from the ocean into art with a gallery – it’s also free to visit! (Photo and Recommendation by Jess, Uprooted Traveler)

Cannon Beach in April
Cannon Beach is located on the northern coastline of Oregon, about 90 minutes from Portland. The weather in April is getting warmer, but it’s still a bit cool, especially in the mornings and evenings. Be sure to dress warm; pack a rain jacket and wear waterproof shoes or rain boots.
This picturesque seaside town is celebrated for its expansive, sandy shores and its iconic, monolithic sea stack—Haystack Rock, which is a nesting ground for tufted puffins and visible from nearly every spot along the beach. In April the beach isn’t too crowded, so you can enjoy the famous Haystack Rock without too many people around.
The Cannon Beach area should be on your list of places to visit in Oregon with kids for tide pooling and whale watching! In April you can see Gray Whales on their migration between Mexico and Alaska. Columbia River Gorge Waterfalls in April
The Columbia River Gorge is a breathtaking canyon of the Columbia River forming the boundary between the state of Washington to the north and Oregon to the south. Stretching over 80 miles and up to 4,000 feet deep, the gorge carves its way westward through the Cascade Range.
April begins the busy season along the waterfall corridor, so make sure you know what parking permits are required for your visit! The Columbia Gorge is one of the best Oregon photography locations to capture breathtaking waterfalls like these:
Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in Oregon dropping 635 feet with two tiers! This is the state’s most popular attraction.
Latourell Falls cascades over a 224-foot basalt cliff. It’s easily accessible from a short trail that leads to a viewpoint. You can access the base and top of the falls via longer hiking trails.
Bridal Veil Falls drops 118 feet and includes two different tiers. It’s a short 1/3 mile walk along an easy path from the road.
Tunnel Falls flows down over 165 feet and is accessed via the Eagle Creek Trail. A tunnel was blasted out of the rock behind the falls in order to continue the hiking trail to avoid the need of building an expensive bridge. (Recommended by Dave & Jamie, Photo Jeepers)

Crater Lake National Park in April
Crater Lake National Park, located in southern Oregon, is the state’s only national park, and its startlingly blue volcanic lake is the deepest in the U.S. The park is open year-round, and it’s a popular place to visit in Oregon in summer.
Visiting Crater Lake National Park in April can be tough due to weather and adverse conditions. It will still feel like winter, it’s a unique and serene experience, as the national park is often covered in a blanket of snow. One early April trip we drove in blizzard conditions, and never did make it to the park!
Be prepared for cold temperatures and variable weather conditions. Wear winter clothing, dress in layers, bring waterproof gear, and check the weather forecast before your visit. The snow enhances the beauty of the lake and surrounding areas, but it is also possible that you will be unable to see the lake due to low-lying fog.
Due to snow accumulation, certain park facilities, roads, and amenities may be limited or closed. The Rim Drive, which offers panoramic views of the lake, is typically closed in winter. The Rim Village Visitor Center and Crater Lake Lodge may have limited services in April, so check in advance for any operational changes. (Recommended by Dave & Jamie, Photo Jeepers)

Hood River in April
Hood River is a port city along the Columbia River in northwest Oregon that makes for a perfect destination in Oregon in April! The weather of Hood River in April is moderate, with a high of 62°F and a low of 40°F.
You’ll find a variety of wineries near Hood River as well as fruit stands, breweries, and waterfalls. The Hood River area is an incredible vacation spot for travelers that love the outdoors.
During the month of April, Hood River has several events that are absolutely worth attending while visiting. The Hood River Cider Fest takes place in April each year, and is a fun event for learning about and tasting local cider. Pacific City in April
Pacific City, just a 2-hour drive southwest from Portland, is an ideal getaway in April. The beach features a towering sand dune amid the flat, sandy shoreline and one of Oregon’s famous “haystack” rocks.
Playing on the dune is a great family activity. While swimming is technically possible, the water is cold year-round and it’s not recommended without a wetsuit.
Instead, try sandcastle-building, flying kites, searching for seashells, or enjoying a seaside meal from Pelican Brewing. You can also explore caves and tidepools or watch fishing boats bring their hauls up onto the sand.
A highlight in April is whale-watching. Oregon’s spring whale-watching season lasts from late February to May, so bring binoculars to scout from the shore, or book a boat tour to get up closer.

Portland in April
You’ll find a variety of things to add to your Portland Bucket List when visiting in April. Enjoy an amazing view of downtown Portland and Mount Hood from Pittock Mansion, a chateau owned by the Pittock family who helped Portland grow as a thriving city.
Portland is known as a top foodie destination in the US. You’ll find food cart pods practically on every corner. They offer cheap and tasty meals from different cuisines such as Mexican, Indian, Thai, and Middle Eastern.
If you’re visiting Portland with kids, donuts are a must-do activity! Visit Voodoo Doughnuts or go on a donut tasting tour to try some of Portland’s other tasty donut shops. Most of the donut tours end at Voodoo.

Silver Falls State Park in April
Silver Falls State Park has 9,000 acres and 35 miles of backcountry trails, plus campsites for horses, RVs, and traditional tents making it the perfect destination to explore. This Oregon State Park is a short drive from Portland near Salem and the Willamette Valley.
Known for the famous Trail of Ten Falls, it is one of the best places to visit in Oregon. April is an excellent month to visit Silver Falls State Park. The spring rain will deter crowds and cause the waterfalls to be in full strength. Pack a rain jacket and your waterproof hiking boots and you will have an amazing time exploring the lush greenery along the trails.

Smith Rock State Park in April
Smith Rock State Park is one of the best places to visit in Oregon in April for several reasons, the biggest reason being the weather. On days when many other parts of the state are drenched in rain, you can often count on dry conditions at Smith Rock.
Generally speaking, spring (and autumn for that matter) tend to be the best seasons to visit this state park, since the summer months can be unbearably hot here. Whereas in April, temperatures are often comfortably cool, with highs in the 60s (F), perfect weather for hiking.
However, what really makes Smith Rock special in April is all the wildflowers in bloom this month. There really is nothing quite as beautiful as a desert bloom! Southern Oregon in April
The Southern Oregon Coast is one of the best places in Oregon to visit in April. This is because it’s located in what locals call “The Banana Belt,” a region of the coast that experiences warmer and drier weather on the Oregon coast.
This is perfect for those who are sick of the gray Pacific Northwest weather and are wanting to enjoy sunshine in the spring! The area enjoys only 12 days of rain per month (considering it’s located in the PNW!) and has average temperatures in the high 50s.
Some of the best things to do on the Southern Oregon coast involve hiking and beach exploring. Samuel H Boardman is a must-visit destination here. The cliffside views are iconic! If you find yourself with a sunny day, grab some picnic supplies in town and enjoy a picnic on the beach.

Tumalo Falls in April
Visiting the Bend area in April is a perfect place to be. You get a mix of winter and spring at this high desert location. With Bend being in the state’s center, you still have access to the mountains, but you are also privy to warmer conditions, making hiking and exploring top-notch.
One of those great places to explore is Tumalo Falls, about a 20-minute drive from downtown Bend. It’s hands down one of the best waterfalls in Oregon.
The lower falls viewpoint is accessible to anyone as they are mere feet from the gravel parking lot. If you want to hike up to the top, it’s a half-mile, semi-steep trail. It could be icy in April, so bring microspikes or hiking poles so as not to slip.

Woodburn in April
A must-visit for spring in western Oregon is a visit to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn. The field is located just 15 minutes off I5 and an hour south of Portland, making it very convenient to visit for those living nearby or if you’re driving thru Oregon.
You’ll find 40 acres with over 100 varieties of stunning tulips at this farm. Plus, tulip display gardens where you can get a close-up look at the varieties in one spot to order your own tulips. It’s also the only tulip farm I’ve seen where you’ll find a hot air balloon for photo opps & short trips up in the air.
Kids will love the variety of activities from a cow wagon, duck races, horse swings, bounce houses & more. Take a break from the tulips & enjoy a variety of food trucks on site. You’ll also find a Wooden Shoe Vineyards tasting room for adult beverages.
