It’s important to know the best times to visit Utah National Parks so you can maximize your camping experience. Here are some tips on when to plan your trip so you can make the most out of your camping adventure in Utah’s National Parks!
Utah National Parks in the Spring – Spring weather in Southern Utah is perfect for exploring the National Parks. While visiting you will see warmer days, but with nighttime temperatures still getting fairly cool. You might see an occasional rainstorm, but nothing that will prevent you from enjoying outdoor activities.
Utah National Parks in the Summer – Summer weather is HOT in Central/Southern Utah where the national parks are located. Bryce Canyon is a bit cooler due to its elevation. Summer monsoon season means heavy rain and lightning. We recommend you talk to the rangers before hitting any trail to get the most updated conditions so you’re prepared.
Utah National Parks in the Fall – Fall weather in Southern Utah is perfect for exploring the National Parks. While visiting you will see days starting to cool down from the intense summer heat. Expect warm days, but nighttime temperatures will start to cool down as the months progress. During September and October the roads, hiking trails and parking lots typically fill to capacity. Typically by November, things start to wind down and crowds begin to thin.
Utah National Parks in the Winter – During the winter you need to be prepared for rain and snow. You will definitely want to pack winter clothing and dress in layers. We recommend you have waterproof hiking shoes, winter coat, fleece jacket, winter hat and gloves when visiting Utah National Parks in the winter.
The park roads might be closed after a snowfall for several hours for plowing. For road conditions around the parks, check the Utah Road Weather Forecast or call 1-866-511-UTAH (8824). Park roads, parking lots, and pullouts can still be icy, especially in shaded areas. Check at the visitor center for the latest information on road conditions.

Here’s the list of the RV Parks near all five Utah National Parks. You’ll find there are RV camping options inside the parks as well as outside the parks in bordering towns.
Arches National Park RV Parks
Devil’s Garden campground is the only places for Arches National Park camping. It’s small with only 51 sites 20 to 40 feet long.
Facilities include: drinking water, picnic tables, grills and both pit-style and flush toilets. Pets are allowed in the campground.
There are no RV hook-ups, dump station, or shower facilities at this campground in Arches.
Reservations are required from March 1 to October 31. For Arches National Park winter Camping, sites are first-come, first-served.

Bryce Canyon National Park RV Parks
Due to the high elevation at Bryce Canyon (8,900 feet above sea level), be sure to pack for the weather conditions. The temperatures drop at night, so it’s important to be prepared.
RV campsites are in high demand for Bryce Canyon camping in the spring, summer, and fall.
If you plan to do any Bryce Canyon winter camping, some amenities may not be available like firewood, ice, and laundry.
North Campground is open all year: total sites along 4 loops. Loops A & B are primarily for RVs over 20 ft. Reservations are required the end of May to October 1. From October 2 to May 26 all sites are first-come, first-served.
There are no sewer, water or electrical hook-ups at this campground. There is a dump station available during the summer months.
Sunset Campground is open mid-April to the end of October: 98 first-come, first-served sites and 3 reservable sites. Loop A is specifically for RV vehicles over 20 ft.

Canyonlands National Park RV Parks
You must be prepared and pack everything that you think you’ll need for Canyonlands National Park camping! Both Island in the Sky and Needles are remote areas with very few guest services. You will find no food, lodging, or gas services available within the park.
Willow Flat Campground, Island in the Sky is very small with only 12 sites. The RV max length is 28 feet. It is fully operational all-year-round if you want to do Canyonlands winter camping. The campground is first-come, first-served and sites fill quickly spring through fall.
Facilities include: pit toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. The campground allows pets. There is no potable water, RV hook-ups, dump station, or shower facilities at this campground in Canyonlands.
The Needles Campground, Needles Canyonlands has 26 sites and 3 group sites located around the park. The RV max length is 28 feet. It is fully operational all year.
You can reserve some individual camp sites spring through fall and group sites between mid-March and mid-November. The rest of the campground sites are first-come, first-served and sites fill quickly spring through fall.
Facilities include: pit toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. The campground allows pets. There is no potable water, RV hook-ups, dump station, or shower facilities at this campground in Canyonlands.

Capitol Reef National Park RV Parks
Fruita Campground is open year-round, and is the only location in the park with RV sites for Capitol Reef National Park camping. The 71 campsites are all reservable six months in advance from March 1 to October 31, and include 64 multipurpose sites without hookups and seven walk-in tent sites.
For Capitol Reef National Park winter camping November 1 to February 28 all sites are first come, first served.
The sites are spacious and have paved parking areas. The campground offers flush toilets, a nearby RV dump station, water fill stations, picnic tables, fire pits, and grills at all sites except walk-ins.

Zion National Park RV Parks
There are three campgrounds for RV camping in Zion National Park: the Watchman Campground, the South Campground, and the Lava Point Campground.
Watchman Campground is the only one open year-round, but has reduced availability if you’re interested in winter camping in Zion National Park. All campsites at Watchman Campground require reservations, which may be made six months prior to your arrival date.
All 176 sites include a place for an RV, a picnic table, and access to a fire ring. Max length of RV is 40 feet. There are 95 sites with electric hookups available
Flush toilets, dump station, cold running drinkable water, trash containers, and cell phone reception are available year-round.
South Campground is open March through October, and closes in the winter. All campsites at South Campground require reservations, which may be made two weeks prior prior to your arrival date.
There are 105 dry RV sites that include a place for an RV, a picnic table, and a fire ring.
Flush toilets, cold running drinkable water, trash containers, dump station, and cell phone reception are available seasonally.
