What to Pack for Utah National Parks in the Summer
In the summer it’s important to stay hydrated and use sun protection for any outdoor activities in Utah National Parks.
- WATER: Drink plenty of water – we use hydration packs or carry refillable bottles in our backpack.
- ELECTROLYTES: Carry Propel powder packets to add to your water to provide electrolytes!
- FOOD: Pack and eat salty and healthy snacks.
- SUN PROTECTION: Sunscreen, lip balm with sunscreen, and hydrating lotion, especially if you’re not used to dry heat.
- CLOTHING: Light-colored wicking and UV protectant clothing is best – no cotton shirts, socks or jeans!

When planning your Arches National Park summer vacation expect HOT temperatures! Since the temperatures are brutal this time of year, plan your outdoor activities for the cooler mornings and evenings!

- Arches in July: Highs 100° | Lows 67° F
- Arches in August: Highs 97° | Lows 66° F

Summer Weather at Bryce Canyon
At Bryce Canyon National Park in the summer, the temperatures aren’t as hot as the other Utah National Parks which is a welcome relief!
Due to the elevation, Bryce Canyon National Park temperatures will still be cool in the mornings and evenings.

Summer monsoon rain storms are common at Bryce Canyon so check the weather to see if you may also need a rain jacket.

Summer Weather at Canyonlands
At Canyonlands National Park in the summer the temperatures will be HOT! Since the temperatures are brutal this time of year, plan your outdoor activities for the cooler mornings and evenings!
The Canyonlands National Park weather in the summer means hot and dry conditions. If you’re not used to a dry climate like Utah, be sure to pack lotion and lip balm!

Summer Weather at Capitol Reef
At Capitol Reef National Park in the summer the temperatures will be hot! Since the temperatures are brutal this time of year, plan your outdoor activities for the cooler mornings and evenings!
To combat the hot and dry Capitol Reef National Park weather, sun protection and hydration are important!

Beginning mid-June monsoon season brings heavy rain and thunderstorms and the possibility of flash floods at Capitol Reef. Storms may occur any time of day, but often increase in severity shortly after 12:00 pm, noon. Conditions can change rapidly and cell service is unreliable in most of the park, so check the weather before your visit, or go to the visitor center for current information.

Summer Weather at Zion National Park
At Zion National Park in the summer the temperatures will be HOT HOT HOT! Since the temperatures are brutal this time of year, plan your outdoor activities for the cooler mornings and evenings!
With the hot Zion National Park weather in the summer it’s important to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun!
- Zion in June: Highs 95° | Lows 63° F
- Zion in July: Highs 100° | Lows 68° F
- Zion in August: Highs 100° | Lows 68° F
Monsoon season at Zion is late summer through early fall. Be aware of potential flash floods at Zion: sudden increase in the depth and speed of water in rivers, streams, or washes due to heavy rain from thunderstorms. These flood waters carry large debris like tree trunks and boulders.
